A short introduction to replacing smartphone displays

It often happens faster than you think. The smartphone slips out of your hand and falls on the floor. The result is often a broken screen. But with a little manual skill, this is not a big problem. Replacing the screen with a replacement display can easily be done at home. In this introduction, you will learn the necessary basics.

What you need for the replacement

A few tools are necessary and/or very helpful for replacing the display. First of all, you need a high-quality replacement display. Make sure that it is of good quality. In addition, you will need the following to make the replacement as easy as possible:

• Suitable Screwdriver for your smartphone
• A Suction cup
• A Spatula or a Plectrum
• An anti-static cloth
• A Anti-static tweezers
• A magnetic mat

Before you start

When you have all the necessary materials and tools at hand, you can start with the preparation. It is important that you inform yourself about the replacement of the display on your specific smartphone model. YouTube videos are an ideal help here. It is not sufficient to know only the basic information from this article to replace a display, as every smartphone has certain peculiarities and therefore requires a slightly different procedure. You should also make a backup of your data in case something goes wrong.

The exchange

The replacement process itself can vary between different models of smartphones. However, some steps are generally the same for all. Before you start, make sure the smartphone is switched off. First, unscrew the smartphone. The screws should remain organised as much as possible so that they can be reinstalled in the right place at the end. A magnetic mat is particularly useful here. There are even magnetic matsthere are even magnetic mats on which a smartphone model and the position of the screws in it are depicted. This way you will know later which screw belongs where. Now you can carefully remove the display with the spatula or plectrum and the suction cup. Be careful not to damage the cables and contacts. The best way to do this is to open it at a 90 degree angle. To remove the display, disconnect all connectors. Once you have removed the old display, you can connect the new one to the connectors. Now the display can be attached. Please make sure that the new display is working properly (just switch it on briefly and test all functions) before finally installing and gluing it.
